Peer Mentoring prOGRAM (pmp)
Recovery Support
Available only in the city of Hawthorne, CA.
An adult Peer Mentoring Program (PMP) addresses the substance use and mental health needs of Regional Center clients by training them to become mentors to their peers with the goal of increasing self-efficacy, belonging, and improving self-confidence as well as creating links to local recovery groups.
Meetings and Outings
Designed to build community, meetings are twice a week in Hawthorne. Once or twice a month we take the participants on pro-social outings where people with disabilities engage in fun, safe, and sober leisure activities based on the group’s interests.
Approach
The approaches we use are trauma informed and ensures sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences. We include art and cinema therapy, role play, somatic methods like breathwork and yoga as well as experiential learning while incorporating a combination of evidenced based practices.
Grant Success
Sober State was the proud recipient of the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) grant from the State of California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) under the "Substance Use Delivery Expansion Project" . The success of this program has led to the permanency of PMP with the goal of expanding PMP to surrounding Regional Centers.
